We are EQ Saddle Science

Carmi Weininger

Carmi Weininger: President & Founder

In 1997, Carmi was thrown from a young horse she was training. This began her journey to learn about saddles and fitting: topics which were then quite mysterious. By 1999, Carmi was as devoted to saddle fit as she was to her Boulder, Colorado-based teaching and training business, which taught people to love and respect horses while learning riding skills. Her search for a better saddle led her to England and the flexing panel saddle design which instantly fixed the back pain in her own horse, and then did the same for many friends. When the opportunity arose, she acquired the business, and relocated it to the US.

After spending her first decade in the saddle business gaining a solid industry knowledge, Carmi spent the next ten years in creating new designs while expanding our ability to help more people, and help more horses.

Today, she leads our vision with a solid commitment to provide better outcomes for each and every customer.

Amanda Matsui

Amanda Borer-Matsui: R&D Engineer

Amanda Matsui is a lifelong equestrian who earned her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Davis. Her company, Equine Engineering Consulting, assists equine-related companies and institutions in finding practical engineering solutions to their projects. Her work with Michigan State University on 3-Dimensional photonic scans of horses was recently published.

Amanda joined the EQ Saddle Science team in 2018 to help with manufacturing and design updates to the EQFlex™ Panels, and is now lead engineer on a variety of projects. She says “Learning the dynamics and functionality of the modular saddle system has been a great experience as an engineer and horsewoman.” Witnessing her senior horse, Preston, benefit from the customized fit and flexibility of an EQ dressage saddle made her a firm believer in the technology. In exchange for his wonderful new saddle, Preston graciously volunteers to test development projects and designs.

Amanda lives in Davis, CA with her husband, her horse and their dog.
