EQ Flapless Saddle Study

In March, 2016, an international team led by renowned research expert Dr. Hilary Clayton gathered at the Animal Rehab Institute in Loxahatchee, FL to study the EQ flapless dressage saddle system by comparing it to high end conventional saddles on upper level dressage horses. At the time, our design team was aware that the saddle created a profound and lasting upgrade for both horse and rider, but didn’t know why. After measuring a number of variables and then analyzing the results, Dr. Clayton’s study proved conclusively that EQ system makes riders more stable, especially when sitting the extended gaits.

The effect of the flapless saddle was clear, making the rider’s position more stable and especially keeping the rider centered over the left and right seatbones.

Why go flapless?

When the flap comes off, the ride gets better. Wide horses feel narrow, and the lightest aid receives an immediate response. Sitting is easier. Balancing is easier. Learning, and improving your riding, is easier.

Our patented Skinny Flap™ system provides a variety of flaps that go on and off in seconds for a seamless transition from flaps to flapless.

Train flapless for ultimate feel, then attach the super-thin Skinny Flaps™ for competition.

The EQFlex™ Panels

Thin, flexible foam panels move independently with the horse for the greatest freedom a saddle can provide. Horses express their appreciation instantly, with upgrades in balance, impulsion, extension, and lateral work.

Anatomically-shaped EQFlex™ panels come in different shapes and lengths to fit every equine profile. They mold to your horse in just a few rides, increasing the comfort even further.

Once properly fitted, there’s often little need for adjustment, unlike flocked saddles that typically require attention multiple times a year. Many of our riders go years without any maintenance at all.

The Shock Absorbers

Shock absorbing discs of Sorbothane™ rubber are key to the saddle’s function. Two discs in front of the rider and two more behind contour the panels to follow the horse’s body, while the front and back edges of the panels flex into the gaps between panel and tree. The discs allow the panels to move independently, providing shoulder freedom and protecting the horse's sensitive loins. When combined with EQ tree fitting science and panel technology, there are never pressure points beneath the discs.

Discs come in three thicknesses and three densities. Changing discs takes minutes, and allows the saddle to follow changes in a horse’s body.
